The most anticipated event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain was clearly the Samsung Galaxy event. Where they showed the world what they were up to the past months. After crushing the S8 event in New York City on Wednesday, March 29th 2017. Everything about the S8 is so perfect so much so that you can’t possibly think of any other update that would warrant the development of the S9. But they still have to deliver, even if its the same smartphone with a few tweaks to it. So lets find out what these tweaks are.
Design and build
At first glance, the S9 doesn’t look too different from its predecessor (the S8). But with a closer look, you will realize that the finger print sensor has been placed in a better position that is below the camera and not beside the camera as on the S8. It also has water and dust resistance like its predecessors. But the biometric security already seems way better than the Galaxy S8, Intelligent Scan is so much more rapid than the iris/face scan, and you can also have the fingerprint scanner running at the same time.
The dual speakers are also really good, so much louder than last year and offer a wider, more explosive sound
Galaxy S9 has an 8MP f/1.7 aperture autofocusing front-facing camera that is 1/3.6 sensor size, 1.22µm pixel size, and 80-degree field of view and a 12MP rear camera that is 1/2.55 sensor size, 1.4µm pixel size, and 77-degree field of view, with the S9+ packing an additional 12MP telephoto lens (1/3.4″ sensor size, 1.0µm pixel size, 45-degree field of view) for 2x zoom.
A dual-lens setup is really cool for an upgrade. They both make what samsung is calling “Dual Aperture” which allows for two openings on a single lens. But really, it’s one aperture that moves between two f-stops — f/2.4 and f/1.5. While the mechanical shutter is on both phones, only the S9+ has it on the primary (wide-angle) lens. The shutter switches between the f-stops automatically by default, jumping to f/1.5 when the phone detects low-light conditions and f/2.4 in bright scenes. You can also manually control it in the camera’s Pro mode, but you can’t select any f-stops between the two. And the switch is almost instantaneous. This is an awesome upgrade.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available, as expected, from 16 March in the UK. Pre-orders are live now, and Samsung said those who pre-order before 7 March at 23:59 GMT will receive their devices seven days early on 9 March.
They will be available in 4 colors with Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and Titanium Gray.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is coming March 16, but you can pre-order it today in the UK and Europe, while the US pre-order started yesterday, Friday, March 2.
You can pre-order them March 2 at prices starting from $720 in the US for the standard S9 and $870 for the S9 Plus
